Energy Efficiency and Retrofit

PAS 2035 retrofit and energy certification

Whole-house retrofit, and the certification that sits alongside it — EPC, non-domestic EPC, DEC, MEES and energy auditing.

  • SME Retrofit Employer of the Year 2025
  • Retrofit Assessment & Coordination Services of the Year 2024

As award winning Retrofit specialists, we have a team of qualified Retrofit Assessors, Designers and Retrofit Coordinators. We are accredited through Elmhurst Energy and TrustMark registered.

Retrofitting a property means making improvements to homes that are necessary to improve their energy efficiency. The entire process is conducted by a team of qualified experts who work together to implement changes and upgrades as a ‘Whole House’ approach. Once completed, the property will be more energy efficient and sustainable for the future.

We work with housing associations, local authorities, and construction companies. All the Retrofit work we conduct enables our clients’ projects to achieve full compliance with PAS 2035.

Retrofit services

Delivered end to end and fully compliant with PAS 2035.

Retrofit assessment

Retrofit Assessments gather information and data about a property to help identify where there are areas of improvement that will increase the building’s energy efficiency.

Our TrustMark approved and qualified retrofit assessors can carry out Path A, B and C assessments, including accreditation for traditional, high rise, conservation and listed buildings. We have 30 retrofit assessors with a capacity of over 300 retrofit assessments a week.

We are certified to use Corelogic, EcoSurv, Elmhurst and Stroma, and all assessments carried out are in line with PAS 2035. We have RICS chartered building surveyors available for high risk buildings.

Retrofit coordination

Our MD is a highly commended Retrofit coordinator who has been involved with PAS 2035 since its inception. Our team of qualified Retrofit coordinators oversee all domestic retrofit projects to ensure they comply with PAS 2035.

This quality management role is responsible for checking the project through from cradle to grave, and communicating between the client and the contractors. We have the capacity for over 300 retrofit plans per week.

Our retrofit coordinators have successfully lodged thousands of reports with Trustmark, and you won’t find a more refined and cost effective service.

Retrofit design

The Retrofit Designer carries out the design dependent on the project pathway chosen. Our Retrofit Designers are qualified Retrofit Coordinators, accredited with CIOB and RICS, with experience in all pathway requirements.

We have extensive knowledge in all insulation and heating measures and renewables, and produce designs quickly and accurately.

Retrofit evaluation

The evaluator oversees the final project and has the skills and knowledge to understand why a project may not have delivered the expected outcome.

Our Evaluators are separate from Coordinators to ensure a transparent view of the full project.

Energy certification and compliance

Domestic and non-domestic, for private owners, landlords and the public sector.

Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)

Energy Performance Certificates are valid for 10 years. An EPC states what the energy efficiency rating could be if improvements are made, and highlights cost-effective ways to achieve a better rating.

All of our energy assessors are fully qualified in domestic and non-domestic energy surveys. If you are selling or renting out a property, the certificate needs to be available to potential buyers as soon as you start to market it.

Non-domestic EPC

Commercial and other non-domestic buildings need a non-domestic EPC on sale, letting or construction. Our assessors are qualified for non-domestic as well as domestic energy surveys.

Where a portfolio is involved, we survey and lodge to a consistent standard so the data is usable for planning, not just for compliance.

Display Energy Certificates (DEC)

Display Energy Certificates can be produced within 24 hours of a site visit and must be accompanied by an advisory report containing recommendations for improvement. The advisory report is valid for seven years.

The threshold for a DEC in public buildings is a total useful floor area over 500m². Since 2013, all certificates need to be on display in your foyer or reception area.

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES)

Since April 2018 it has been unlawful to let new residential tenancies with an EPC rating lower than E. From April 2020 this expanded to all privately rented residential properties, and from April 2023 to all existing commercial leases.

If a property does not meet the minimum standard, landlords may be unable to legally let or market it. Penalties for non-compliance in the domestic sector can reach up to £5,000. We assess individual properties or entire portfolios and produce compliant EPCs.

Energy auditing

Our surveyors are highly experienced in energy assessments and PAS compliance, and are committed to improving standards across the industry through nationwide energy audits.

For over a decade we have provided energy audits for accreditation bodies and energy institutions, delivering comprehensive feedback, CPD and one-to-one training. All of our auditors offer practical feedback, tailored training and realistic solutions.

Specialist surveys

Energy work often starts with a condition question. We also carry out stock condition, damp and mould, roof, thermal imaging and air pressure testing surveys — see all specialist surveys.
